Hybrid Co-Working, Retail, & Event Space for Women Entrepreneurs to Open in Auburn, NY

Melody Smith Johnson to open Melody’s, a hybrid membership based space for women entrepreneurs. Melody’s is designed specifically for women entrepreneurs who need a space to grow their business and build their community. Community is important for Melody Smith Johnson, “I wanted to design a space that female professionals and entrepreneurs could utilize to grow their business, gain exposure, and for us to work together as a community that supports each other.” 

In addition to being a 20+ year HR Executive and CEO of MSJ HR Consulting, Melody Smith Johnson is the Owner/Lead Designer of Divine Coverings, LLC, a successful online retail bling business offering products that encourage and inspire women in their everyday life. In 2016 she founded the Beverly L. Smith Empowerment Initiative, Inc., which provides mentorship, scholarships, and entrepreneurial coaching for Black and Brown young women across the United States.

Melody’s offers retail space for women owned product based businesses to showcase their products year-round. Event space for networking, seminars, meetings and intimate functions. Co-working work stations offer flexibility and room for workers to get their business done. In addition to the co-work desk stations, two private spaces are available. A designated office space/conference room for meetings or zoom calls, and an office available to sub-lease with a private entrance.

Located in the Lorraine Building at 128 Genesee Street, Melody’s is Cayuga County’s first Black woman owned business of its kind. Melody adds that “representation matters and it’s important to me as a mentor of Black and Brown young women, to be in a space that’s accessible so that they can visualize their potential.”

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 28th at 4pm. Auburn and Cayuga County elected officials as well as community leaders will be in attendance to welcome this innovative business to Downtown Auburn. Gwen Webber-McLeod will act as  leader of ceremonies and introduce Melody Smith Johnson before her remarks.
